Once she finally gets the girl to start talk Smokey was thinking that she and Bonnie would take a vacation and try to let the horror of the past couple of weeks fade a bit. I know that the genre of serial killers is kind of a strange thing to enjoy reading, and that there could be a formulaic banality or redundancy. Cory McFadyen is unlike any other author I have come across. Short of the computer science specialist that temporarily was part of Smoky's team all of the other characters on the investigator's side , including still chosing to be a mute foster-daughter of Smoky's, Bonnie, make a reappearance.

I would recommend this novel and series to those that enjoy dark thrillers. Not for the faint of heart but so engrossing. The hunt for a brutal serial killer has begun.
It's so much more than that and I don't know how to put it into words just how touching some parts of this book were. This being a second book in the Smoky B. The Face of Death is even better. As with the previous and first novel of the Smoky Barrett series, "Shadow Man", and read it front to back in just about a week's time. Without wanting to give too much away we delve into the head of a very abused teenage girl. It is so descriptive and menacing.
The trouble is, no one believes her.
